Walyalup Civic Centre nominated for a WA Architecture Award

5 May 2022

This week the Walyalup Civic Centre was deservedly nominated for a WA Architecture Award.

I still remember the moment, way back in 2012, when at a community planning meeting for precinct it was suggested by a Freo resident that we don’t just build a replacement civic centre, but that the City of Fremantle instead embark on an international architectural competition to make sure Fremantle got a new civic building capable of being “heritage of the future”.

It was a great suggestion and ten years on Fremantle now has a stunning new building designed by Kerry Hill Architects in its centre.

It was a long and challenging journey that relied on the dedication and hard work of many good people. But it’s a building that makes me smile every time I walk by.
